‘Shoe Tree’
Following its launch last night at Milan Design Week, we introduce our latest collaboration:
‘Shoe Tree’
Beatrix Ong X Joined + Jointed (the sister company of Channels)
Commissioned by Wallpaper* magazine for the 2016 edition of its Handmade series, ‘Shoe Tree’ brings together the creativity of London-based shoe designer, Beatrix Ong MBE, and Samuel Chan, founder of Joined + Jointed, alongside the main company Channels.
“Storing shoes is always somewhat challenging in terms of space and aesthetics. I wanted to create a piece that is both storage and display, and one that ultimately utilises Samuel’s incredible knowledge and skill of woodwork. Calling it ‘Shoe Tree’ hints of its ability to grow, if you wish.”

DGMs 2017
During Clerkenwell Design Festival 2017, Samuel Chan received another two Design Guild Marks to add to his collection. The Design Guild Mark (DGM) was introduced by The Worshipful Company of Furniture Makers to reward the work of the finest furniture designers working in Britain. Judged annually by a panel of members from across the furniture industry, DGMs are awarded for excellence in design, use of materials, manufacture and function. Confluence • 20+ Hong Kong Edition 6 – 28 June ’17
Confluence · 20+ is a monumental roving exhibition series showcasing a wealth of collaborative works by talent in the Hong Kong design scene. New Publication to be launched at London Design Festival
New Book Samuel Chan: Design Purity + Craft Principles Channels is delighted to announce the publication of a new monograph on Samuel Chan, being launched this September during the London Design Festival. Written by design historians Charlotte and Peter Fiell, it is a comprehensive survey of Samuel's creative and entrepreneurial endeavours, celebrating his design career and the 20-year history of his studio, Channels. New Works recognised with Design Guild Marks
Samuel Chan’s newly launched designs - the Column Bookcase series and Magnus Chair - have been endorsed by this year’s Design Guild Marks, awarded by the Furniture Makers Guild. The DGMs were announced during May’s Clerkenwell Design Week. Column and Magnus were designed in the 20th anniversary year of the Channels studio, and express a certain freedom to experiment on Samuel’s part.
