New Works recognised with Design Guild Marks

Samuel Chan’s newly launched designs – the Column Bookcase series and Magnus Chair – have been endorsed by this year’s Design Guild Marks, awarded by the Furniture Makers Guild. The DGMs were announced during May’s Clerkenwell Design Week.

Column and Magnus were designed in the 20th anniversary year of the Channels studio, and express a certain freedom to experiment on Samuel’s part. Column is a towering piece, with a powerful dynamic created by the balancing blocks. Magnus – with its distinctive pattern of interlocking pieces each fixed with a unique joint – was created to celebrate the seamless partnership Samuel has had over two decades with his in-house furniture makers; their virtuosity of skill are apparent in the making of this chair.

Samuel’s tally of DGMs now climbs to 15. He was recently made a Freeman of the Furniture Makers Guild.
